About Hierarchy Industries

Arin Jones founded Hierarchy Industries to give back to the industry and shops that shaped his formative years. Arin found a sense of community and mentorship in the shops in Central City, the neighborhood he grew up in. Arin obtained his barber’s license, and then a degree in Business Administration from the University of New Orleans.

After funding the shop he was working in, Arin realized that many barbershops and beauty shops around the Crescent City could use someone like him – a partner who believed in their business and was more willing to lend to them than the banks were.

After Hurricane Zeta, Arin was approached by a high end salon to help with financing after their building took damage during the storm. As Arin has expanded his business portfolio, he has also expanded his geographic profile, branching out into Baltimore.

Hierarchy Industries works with shops and salons to provide funding as a silent partner. Instead of a loan, Hierarchy Industries will take a percentage of the profit at the end of the month, typically below ten percent. Hierarchy Industries can offer mentorship for shops and salons, as well as consulting services; however, Hierarchy Industries will never demand a shop or salon run their business in a prescribed manner.

About the Founder, Arin Jones

Arin Jones grew up in the St. Thomas Housing Projects in New Orleans, LA. His father Moses was blind, and mother Ruth spent most of her time caring for him. Arin was often left to his own devices. He began hanging out in a local barber shop after school, where he found a sense of community and mentorship from the gentlemen who worked there. After graduating from Alcee Fortier High School, Arin attended Stevenson’s Academy Hair Design on the West Bank.

After cutting hair for a few years, Arin had a loyal enough customer base to purchase his own shop. The long hours and general management issues that he had observed did not appeal to him. The owner of the shop was struggling to purchase new equipment to meet safety regulations and was unable to receive the requisite funding from the bank due to the slim margins the shop was making. That’s when Hierarchy Industries was born. Arin gave the shop owner a loan, and the owner was able to pay Arin back quickly, while growing his business.

Arin continued working at the shop, while attending the University of New Orleans to get a Bachelor’s of Science in Business Administration in the evenings. After obtaining his degree, Arin began working with other barber and beauty shops in the city as a silent partner to back the shop with funding, while allowing the owners to continue running their shop the way they saw fit. As a silent partner, Arin does not confirm who is on his client list, as it was antithetical to his goal of helping economically disadvantaged barber shops continue to run their own businesses.

As Arin’s portfolio began to grow, he had a higher-end salon reach out after taking some damage in Hurricane Zeta, one of the frequent storms that those who live in New Orleans are accustomed to. Arin provided them funding to fix their building while they waited for the attorneys and insurance to finish arguing. By word of mouth, other high end salons began reaching out to Arin. He quickly developed a reputation as a savvy but fair business man and someone who was much easier to deal with than the typical banking process.

Arin eventually expanded his portfolio to Baltimore, with the help of his cousin. Using the same model, Arin and his cousin provide funding for both high-end salons and economically disadvantaged shops, as well.
